Distinguished Semiconductor Researcher Dr. Paul Gray Joins AppliedMicro’s Board of Directors

AppliedMicro (NASDAQ: AMCC), a global leader in energy conscious computing and communications solutions, today announced that Dr. Paul R. Gray, a distinguished semiconductor researcher and educator, has joined the company’s Board of Directors.
“We are very fortunate and honored that Dr. Gray accepted to join the Board of AppliedMicro,” said Cesar Cesaratto, Chairman of the Board for AppliedMicro. “His wealth of experience in the semiconductor industry and academia and his in-depth knowledge of semiconductor technologies will be invaluable in guiding and influencing the company’s strategic direction.”
Dr. Gray brings more than 40 years of experience in research integrated circuit technology and has focused on bipolar and MOS circuit design, telecommunications circuits and analog-digital interfaces in VLSI systems. He is the Andy Grove Distinguished Professor, Emeritus, in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Gray brings several career accomplishments with him to the board, and is a member of the board of the National Academy of Engineering and an IEEE fellow. Dr. Gray has authored more than 150 journal articles and conference presentations and has published four books including “Analysis and Design of Analog Integrated Circuits.” He is also the author or co-author of 14 patents in the field. Before joining UC Berkeley in 1971, Dr. Gray was in the research and development department at Fairchild Semiconductor. He holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Arizona, Tucson.

In addition to being Professor Emeritus at UC Berkeley, Dr. Gray has held several administrative posts, including Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, Dean of the College of Engineering and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost. He currently serves as a councilor of the National Academy of Engineering and is a member of the National Research Council Governing Board.

AppliedMicro Opens Design Center in India

Team of 40 to focus on datacenter, telecom, enterprise and consumer applications as company enhances engineering resources from experienced and well-educated workforce.
AppliedMicro (NASDAQ: AMCC), a global leader in energy conscious computing and communications solutions, today announced a new design center in Pune, India to expand its development resources in IC design, system engineering and software development.
“AppliedMicro welcomes opportunities to expand its research and development efforts and attract the most talented engineers,” said Dr. Paramesh Gopi, President and CEO of AppliedMicro. “The new India Design Center in Pune presents such an opportunity as the team will focus on chip and system development to enhance our efforts in the embedded computing market.”
AppliedMicro’s India design center will be operated by Pradeep Dharane, who brings more than 15-years experience in the industry, previously serving roles with top-tier companies. The team will initially consist of 40 of design engineers focusing on processor verification, SoC design and verification, software development, device driver development, and post-silicon validation activities.
“Visual networking is driving the exploding demand for increased network capacity but the future of data centers and communication systems will require aggressive power conservation measures,” Dharane said. “Pune is a relatively an untapped location for talented engineers with high quality students graduating from local universities.
